You’ll trade a king
For a king
And need an extension on the game
Because this saga
Is won by pawns.
They might even
Eclipse the queen,
Paranormally round heads
Blocking out the sun
Like a hurricane.

My life as a sheepdog
Was better than the hog
Or the flies in the bog.
I took a pledge
To protect the hedge
And I could sniff out spies
Like they were covered in eggnog.
But then came the man
With the flying car
Who broke my olecranon
As he set the higher bar.
Now I’m broke and unemployed
Saving bills to buy steroids
Because I’ll be back
To storm the farm
And get things on track.

I knew right away something was amiss.
The birds normally fluttering
Were quiet and listless.
Then the breeze turned chilly
And the bay normally teal
Became dark, waves flying willy nilly.
I know to head back to the office
When the summit normally heated
Turns cloudy and the wind raucous.
So the vacation is over
And now here I sit
Waiting for cloud cover
To break and the sunbeams to hit.

Another nail-biter
My hair’s pulled and gray.
The team’s full of fighters
Who will have the last say.
First time topping the group
And England, too, is in the loop.
Today Donovan was the man
But every player did his part.
Now it’s time to put on the jam
We all can’t wait for the next round to start!

Of course scandal would accompany
Cups of ruby, crystal and other gems.
Wealth, if not beauty, will always carry
A certain taint, especially when argued over
By conservatives and dems.
Let’s vote for a reasonable voice
Calling for a moratorium on predatory loans
And rolling our dice on precious stones.
Isn’t it time to trade on other means
Considering the earth has put to us too many liens?
Note: My frequent readers would’ve noticed that I missed a post yesterday. Unfortunately I was caught up in various activities including watching the World Cup and running errands to get ready for my brother’s wedding this weekend. On the same note, I will likely miss Thursday and Friday when I’m out of town for the wedding (if I can’t find the internet and some spare time). Congratulations, Gregory and Monica!

World Cup Limerick #2
You could blame it on shoddy defense
But maybe it was the terrorists’ presence.
They were the refs
Blind and deaf
Disallowing goals wrapped like presents.

Every man is an island
And every island has a story.
Some involve tigers
Others are less gory.
Some have histories
Of small people gone awry
Others describe crewmen
Turned into pigs in a sty.
The survivors are fishers
Or they stick to their squad
Or they farm veggies and hay
Even from the pebbled sod.
Then up grows London
And Mexico and Korea.
All governed by cunning men
With not one good idea.
